National Cooks Brigade for New Orleans

New Orleans' restaurants have been at the forefront of this city's recovery since day one. Ask any New Orleanian and they will quickly tell you which restaurant it was that they walked into for the first time and immediately started crying.

New Orleans is inextricably linked to her restaurants and our culinary heritage and innovations, but now they need help.

With restaurant staffing at 50% or less, the valiant and historic efforts by entire restaurant staffs throughout this city who have provided a sense of normalcy and comfort to the citizens of this devastated region, are rapidly approaching or exceeding "burn-out".

New Orleans Chefs are asking their peers throughout the country and the world to help these restaurants, these true bastions of escape, survive by participating in the Cook's Brigade for New Orleans.

We ask that Chefs and restaurant owners, who have the ability to do so, to generously provide one member of their cooking staff with the opportunity to come down to New Orleans and be paired up with a specific restaurant and Chef for a term of anywhere from two weeks to six months.

We are specifically now asking for a shorter, 2-3 week committment during the New Orleans jazz & Heritage Festival (April 28-30 & May 5-7) and the French Quarter Festival (April 21-23).

This mutually beneficial opportunity would help New Orleans restaurants to get back on their feet and provide your staff with an invaluable experience.

Cooks will contribute to the rebuilding of the New Orleans restaurant scene while learning and experiencing a unique culture and cuisine. They will experience New Orleans as a local would, gaining new friendships, partaking in the rich culture of this area with all our festivals, food and vitality…along with a little partying.

The Cooks Brigade is offering a once in a lifetime experience for chefs and cooks around the world to, in fact, become a New Orleanian by helping us recover during this time of times.

Update Notes:

• The Louisiana Restaurant Association has graciously offered to assist us in this project and we look forward to working with them.
